It’s KITCHEN TOOL TIME, Vegiholics! I’ve always wanted to be the token tool girl so let me live out my dreams my way. We’re about to make your cooking life a lot easier. Chef Jeanine and I threw together a handful of our kitchen must-haves just for you. With the holiday season right around the corner we wanted to give our fellow Vegiholics the inside scoop on a few of our favorite things!
A great Chef’s knife is crucial. I use Global Classic Chef’s Knife 8″. What I learned when shopping for my knife is that it’s almost like a golf club or a bowling ball. You really need to test it out before you buy. The handle, the weight, and the feel are all so important to each individual.
I also highly recommend an Edge Guard (cover) for your knife along with a great pairing knife.
Chef’n Salad ShearsSalad Chopper. I eat chopped salads for breakfast, lunch and sometimes dinner. Toss all ingredients into a metal mixing bowl and chop away! It also helps to chop veggies/boiled eggs/cheese to fill a pita or wrap!
The Nutri Bullet/The Veggie Bullet. I’ve boasted and bragged about how easy these two have eased my experimental side in the kitchen. Whether I’m testing out dressings or whipping up sauces, the Nutri Bullet 900 Series is much easier (and less messy) than a standard food processor. I prefer the Nutri Bullet over the standard Magic Bullet simply for the motor speed. The Nutri Bullet has a 900 watt motor vs. the MB 250 watt motor. Though the MB comes with more accessories, I’ve never really needed more than a couple of mixing cups. When I’m dicing/chopping in bulk or ESPECIALLY spiraling some ZOODLES, the Veggie Bullet is a Vegiholic’s god send! You’ll never, ever have to hand spiralize again.
The OXO Greensaver Produce Keeper. How sick are you of your veggies wilting from humidity? This tupperware keeps my mushrooms, lettuce, cabbage, cucumbers – YOU NAME IT – airy and fresh!
Microplane Soft-Handle Zester. Not only is this bad boy for zesting lemons/limes/oranges, you’ll never have Cheeto fingers from tumeric again! This microplane is comfortable and the most simple way to finely grate hard cheeses, ginger and garlic!
Seville Classics Bamboo Cutting Board. A beautifully crafted bamboo block with a juice well AND 5 easy clean boards with storage. This is an absolutely functional MUST HAVE. *Side note: I’ve googled this board since I purchased ours at Costco and there is a new one out with 7 boards.*
Kuhn Rikon Swiss Peeler. “Many consider the original Swiss peeler the best vegetable peeler on the planet.” We, at Vegiholic, agree! For only five bucks, this peeler is great for both righties AND lefties (Jeanine is a lefty chef). The carbon-steel blade starts sharper and stays sharper. Bonus: It has a much better grip, without any friction or discomfort. 😉
**We’re always down for a bargain so PLEASE feel free to google these meal-magic-makers to find the best deal!**
