The sun is shining that means a wonderful thing: FESTIVAL SEASON. “One thing about music, when it hits you, you feel no pain.” (Thank you, Bob Marley.) As Vegiholics, we want you to keep your energy up, hydration level high, and to be able to dance your days/nights away without worrying about your health. Lucky you: We have some tips and tricks to get you ready!
Let’s just face it… Festivals, though FUN AF, are dirty. There are germs handshakes, hugs, and gross bathrooms so it’s crucial to keep you immune system up. While making your local drugstore travel run, fulfill this vitamin packing list: Echinacea, Vitamin C, 5HTP and mini bottles of oregano oil.
It’s crucial to stay hydrated in the festival heat so be sure to not only DRINK but also EAT your water! Dehydration is a recipe for disaster when partying out in the sun. Iceberg lettuce, celery, cucumber, cauliflower, radishes, tomatoes, watermelon, strawberries, broccoli and spinach are essential additions to your grocery list as they all contain 90% water or higher.
Start every day with a healthy breakfast in order to keep your energy up. An egg white and vegetable omelet (protein!) with a side of fresh fruit (natural glucose!) is the perfect meal to wake up and groove. Festival food can be unpredictable so snacking on nuts through out the day is your best bet.
A NEW Vegiholic recipe you can prepare prior to your trek is Jeanine’s Honey Nut Bars! Seriously, it’s super easy and packed with protein. Make a playlist of your favorite festival jams the night before, give yourself 45 minutes to make and pack them for the road. If a kitchen/kitchenette is available to you during your festival stay, our Vegiholic Mine-strone Soup is great for the body.
Music makes you feel all of the right feels but the hot sun and vigorous dancing can be taxing on your brain and body. Another Vegiholic suggestion to keep you energized? Try NEU. NEU is a new (pun intended) Nootropic boost energy beverage we just fell in love with. (Um, P.S. this is not a sponsored post.) Nootropics are brain vitamins that improve focus, memory, motivation and mood. NEU is the first Nootropic beverage that contains 9 all-natural cognitive enhancers. I prefer this over the standard sugar and caffeine filled energy drinks. It’s also only 18 calories, vegan AND gluten free. Please remember, I’m not a nutritionist – this is recommended for short term (especially festival!) use.
Now, let’s talk real DRINKIES. If you choose to indulge in adult beverages during festival season try our Coconut Water Cocktails and our new jam, Boochcraft. Boochcraft is handcrafted Kombucha with 7% alcohol content and comes in assorted flavors. It’s cold, carbonated, and packed with vitamins/probiotics. “Drinkers of Boochcraft have boasted that they have no hangover the next day.” (WE AGREE!) It is vegan, gluten free, raw and organic. See? We can be healthy and responsible – but we still like to party.
- My bubba buddy, Tom Schwartz, taught me to “water bomb” and it works like a charm. For every cocktail/shot you and your crew take, challenge a friend to chug a bottle of water with you. Who can resist a dare?
- Props to my girl, Michelle Madonna, and her company Flower Children Only! We used her amazing flower crowns to give our photos the festival feel.*
Have fun and be safe, my darling festival goers!
