There’s no denying that we Vegiholics like to party. That being said, it’s crucial to stay hydrated while dehydrating (alcohol dehydrates!). Coconut water is over 95% water (*4% carbohydrates with protein/total fat content under 1% each*) and 100% AMAZE. Prepare and enjoy these delicious cocktails for spring/summer! As always, drink responsibly and don’t forget your daily dose of regular water as well.
Coconut water is tapped from the center of young, green coconuts; this is not to be confused with coconut milk! Not only does coconut water contain essential electrolytes, but it is also rich in potassium. Potassium helps keep fluid and electrolyte balance in the body as well as balances out sodium. Major bonus: potassium fights the evil hangover that alcohol can cause. Because the flavor of coconut water is so delicate, we recommend mixing with light and clear liquors in order to not overpower the taste.
When creating these Vegiholic Coconut Water Cocktails, nothing beats cracking open a fresh baby coconut, adding in the ingredients and sipping from a straw. If you don’t have access to a fresh coconut, we love Purity Coconut Water!
Strawberry Coco Lemonade:
- 2 strawberries
- 1 lemon wedge
- 2 oz. Tito’s Vodka
- 3 oz. coconut water
Muddle strawberries and lemon wedge in a shaker. Add vodka and coconut water. Shake and strain over ice! *Tito’s is a corn based vodka, giving it a mildly sweet aftertaste. We recommend Tito’s for its flavor and price point (no rubbing alcohol taste!).*
Coconut Tequila Cooler:
- 3 pineapple chunks, blended (OR 2 oz. fresh pineapple juice)
- 2 oz. silver Tequila
- 2 oz. coconut water
Shake and strain all ingredients over ice.
Coco Rum Razz:
- 6 raspberries
- small bunch of mint (6-8 leaves)
- 2 oz. white rum
- 4 oz. coconut juice
Muddle raspberries and mint in a shaker. Add rum and coconut water. Shake and serve over ice.
